Moving into spring

Grey skies and rain would be my summing up of the weather in 2024 so far. Whilst looking up to the full grey sky that is endless, I often remember that I once heard that Scotland was the cloudiest country in Europe . The long, grey days make me long for the sun, set in a blue sky. When the sun comes out my mood extends far into the being of me. I become much more productive, the spring arrives in my step and things that I have been putting off seem doing seem easier to tackle. The sun gives us an essential boost of Vitamin D which supports our mental health in addition to support our bones, teeth and muscles. (link to NHS page on Vit D)

As we move into spring, would you consider going on mindful walks in your neighbour hood or local parks or woods. Walking so that you can take in the sunny days or enjoy the movement of walking if an average non sunny day? I love to play loud music in my headphones and go off with the dog, looking up to the sky. Life seems a little lighter when I get home.

I have added some links below to articles on the benefits of being outside. You may think the suggestion of being outside and moving as a remedy for improving your mental health is too basic to make any difference to your mood. Why not put on some shoes and go off for a walk for half an hour and check in how you feel when you get back home. You might be surprised how you feel on your return.

Sometimes it’s the easy and simple things that can make a difference.
